Match report A super young Eight Ash Green XI, featuring 8 players aged 18 and under, took on an equally young Colchester side at the neutral venue of Great Bromley. Wrong sport, but this really was a game of two halves.

For the third game running EAG CC batted first and our opening pair got off to a good start. Scoring at over 7 an over Nico Dormant and Ethan Frost gave us a good platform and, unlike last week, we managed to sustain this throughout our 40 overs. The highlight was an incredible 104 from Ethan Frost. In only his second game back from injury he looked majestic with a combination of straight power hitting and quick fire singles. A debut ton and well worth his man of the match award. Support came from Dormant (38), Woodcock (29) and C. Amos (31). A late flourish from Ajula Gunasekera (8 not out) took the Green to 241, a score we collectively felt was a strong total.

The reality was it was not.

As much as EAG huffed and puffed with the ball we couldn't break down the stiff resistance of Colchester's senior players. J.Fitton scored 123 not out off 102 balls (20 fours) and steered Colchester home after 34 overs, with the loss of just 2 wickets. EAG tried everything in the field with eight bowlers used to try and get the all important break through. Pick of our bowlers was James Woodcock who bowled tightly with controlled swing.

We enjoyed our time with the bat and tried hard with the ball, so plenty to like about this performance. Couple of big games coming up and an opportunity to get back on track.
