Sudbury v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U13 on Thu 26 Jun 2008 at 6pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
EAG 104 for 3 off 20 overs
Sudbury 105 5 off 19 overs
A spirited display from the under 12's, another really close and exciting game.
Our opening pair of Harrsion and Lawrence got us off to a great start both batting with great control and good stroke play. They were both running brilliantly between the wickets and spraying the ball to all parts of the ground. Take note boys!
Eventually, Lawrence was out for 13 runs and in came Liam who kept up the run rate and at 10 overs we had over 70 runs on the board. Then Liam was bolwed by the tricky Sudbury spin bolwer. Harrsion continued to play the bowlers well and eventually was caught for a great 35 runs, our top score this season, by some distance. That brought Oliver and Leighton to the crease and both played with some nice shots but overall our run rate began to fall as the bowlers pinned us down.
We eventually completed our innings at 104 - our best score of the season. After such a good start at 70 off 10 overs we really should have scored better in the second half of our innings. The lads may need to take a few more risks in the second half of the innings if we can and not be frightened to throw the bat a bit more, take a few risks and even lose a few wickets to really push our score along. We had 7 more batsman to bat and could have afforded to take the risks, lets remember those quick singles are often what wins games and keeps the score board ticking over.
Our batting seemed to have improved from our intensive training this week and we came out in confident mood.
It was short lived though as the Sudbury opener looked a really good player and after a sight of the ball hit two fours in a row. Matt Pyatt opened our bowling and in his second over started to tighten the attack, Duncan followed with a couple of accurate overs and then two overs from Jake for just 7 runs. The run rate was being held at or just below the target, and after Isaac had bowled his two very tidy and fast overs for 4 runs, we looked to be right on top. Matt Dunlop then took three overs for 15 runs with his tricky spin bolwing, but most importantly took a wicket and broke the opening partnership. Oliver had two overs, but by now the sudbury opener was in full flow and started to punish the EAG attack for any stray balls. Harrison was operating at the other end with a tight first over and then another wicket in the second over. Richard came on to try and slow the scoring rate with his quick deliveries, but Sudbury were continuing to score well, and closing in on their target of 105. In the 18th over with the game seemingly slipping away from EAG, Jake was brought on, Sudbury needed 1 run to win from 2 overs. Jake managed to pin down the new batsman with his first delivery and then took a hatrick of wickets and a maiden tot putting the pressure back on Sudbury. In the 19th over the final run came to end a thrilling match played in great spirit and much for the team to be proud of and build upon.
