Halstead v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U13 on Sun 15 Jun 2008 at 10am
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 14 runs
Match report
Halstead 79 all out.
EAG 65 for 7 wickets.
Eight Ash Green lost by 14 runs after a great bowling and feilding performance from the team in restricting Halstead to 19 overs, but could not quite repeat there good start with the bat.
A good opening spell from both Isaac Chapman and Richard Nunn keeping the first two overs very tight and then Isaac struck with a fierce delivery to dislodge the Halstead Opener. Jake Egner was then brought into the attack with a wicket maiden. Matthew Pyatt then took over from Isaac bowling well. Jake came back at the other end again keeping it tight and bowling another of the Halstead players out. Then it was the turn of Harrison sadler who completed a first over with only 1 run conceeded. It was now the turn of spin bowler Matthew Dunlop to try and dislodge some more of the Halstead boysand in his second over he managed to trap his man LBW, his third over was completed with creditable figures of 1 wicket for 11 runs off 3 overs. Oliver Gifford then was brought on and in his second over got a wicket. Liam Firmin was operating at the other end and kept it tight with two good overs only going for 8 runs. Some good all round fielding was almost made even better when Lawrence Riches tipped a drive off the ground only to hit him in the throat and drop to the ground. Minutes later though Oliver Gifford completed his second run out of the day with a great throw and direct hit.
Isaac and Jake were then brought back to complete the bolwing. Jake trapped another Halstead player with his accurate bolwing and hit middle stump while Isaac struck with a vicious swinging bowl that was edged and Leighton took a great catch and a wicket maiden for Isaac.
With the bat things did not start well two of the firt three batsmen out for 1 run, with some really fast and accuarte bowling from Halstead. Matt Pyatt and Isaac steadied the ship well with 7 and 16 respectively, but the lads never quite managed to get over the run rate required after that difficult start. Lawrence defended well, but was eventually caught trying to force the pace on the on side and Duncan was run out again trying to force the pace along. That brought Leighton to the crease, followed by Harrison who hit a good 8 runs in very quick time with some great hitting. Matthew Dunlop was also at the crease with Harrison and was attacking too, but by this time the run rate had got away from us.
A great bowling and fielding performance from all the lads and a bit of work for to do with the bat before our next game.
