Match report
EAG Dev XI v Witham II
A true development XI attack of 15 year olds Jack Smith and Stephen Nunn opened the bowling for the Green, and although wicketless kept the scoring at a rate we could only dream of come the end of the innings. The first wickets came courtesy of DJM as in tandem with Colin Hammond the combined age of bowling attack increased by 80+ years. The bowling was switched round, Forrest Maddock having his first spell in senior cricket and Jack Smith bowling a very good second spell. Witham scored 100 off 30 overs, and then launched a furious assault on our bowling, Colin and DJM gamely taking the brunt of the hard hitting. The Green fielders, with Nathan Taylor outstanding stuck at their task as best they could but Witham reached 265 off 45 overs.
Losing early wickets was not ideal in chasing 265, Jack Smith batted for a long time and made a patient 18 to register a good all round performance. In reaching 77 the Green batted out nearly 40 overs to at least make Witham work for their wickets.
