Eight Ash Green Cricket Club PieRates XI v Gt Bromley on Wed 10 Jun 2015 at 18:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Was a windy sunny day at the Green on Wednesday, perfect weather for sailing to a victory, however this was not the case this time for the Wednesday team.
The toss was lost by Keyboard who took the toss in the absence of Craptin Woodhouse and Vice Craptin Matt Parker. The pirates batted first with Monastery brothers Richard & Stephen Nunn. Richard was welcomed back to the green with a slow bowler giving him some nice hitting practice, unfortunately the ginger cringer spooned one straight to mid-off and was caught for 4.
In came Tony (confrontational) Lee, and a change of bowler- in came L Fisher. Tony was dismissed quickly on the 2nd ball of the over round his legs to hit leg stump. Spice-rack followed with his chocolate bat that melted under the pressure exposing his pads and was given LBW by fat luke.
Matt Norris came in to offer some counter-attacking shots which gave him a very uncharacteristic strike rate of more than 3 runs per 100 balls. Meanwhile 'Smiley' Stephen was watching down the other end scoring off the young bowlers. In came Super Sammy Bowles (might need to get your surname changed to szmodics.) Sam lasted through the pace of fisher and played some nice shots to keep the Nunn on strike unfortunately he was caught and bowled later on but put up against a good fight against some good bowling.
Next was the quick dismissal of Mr Rubber Bones JP who did well to not dislocate his shoulder again but was stumped by a 10 year old kid who i swear was the boy from Stuart Little. Next was EAG's very own celebrity- Men's Wear, who got a very respectable 1 and was not laughed off at all.
A new partnership had formed however through Stridents very own Charlotte and Jonathan (Britain's Got Talent) who played some cracking shots over the boundary, narrowly missing the Jen's Wair memorial tree where Jens was having a smoke with his boyfriend while touching his fishing rod.... However Andrew's luck ran out as he was finally caught on the boundary allowing Matt Parker to pad away some deliveries and Luke to smash 18 runs off the last over giving the Pirates 154 to defend.
At the break we were treated to some lovely squash which ginger nunn said " mhmm this is a very good concentration of squash." Its a shame the same can't be said about his concentration... Matt Parker opened up well and was given some questionable wides by the delinquent umpire. Spice rack as well bowled well to the left hander and right. He then bowled out Stuart Little for the greens first wicket, Matt then got the left hander out with a slower ball in the slot that the batsman spooned straight to a shaking Stephen Nunn.
In came new batsmen for Men's Wear and Sam to bowl at Sam bowled extremely well and was unfortunate to get a wicket, however maintained the pressure on the batsmen, Jens again got some sweaty wickets after some wides and an amazing mid air stumping by the ginger one who questionably couldve done a better job of it.
Great Bromley however had dug in with S Platt getting his 50, the Green however had kept the pressure on for Spicer to bowl the last over with Bromley needing 4 to win, sure enough MR Kelvedon let a delivery slip through his legs and over the boundary giving them the game.
Pirate of the week went to Sam Bowles for some great bowling and batting, and fines were issued respectively to all, besides Tony who had popped on the moped to go home for some slow-mo footage of the bowlers action, and of Luke's belly wobbling when he is batting ( no amount of lycra underneath will stop that Luke.)
No thanks to Richard Nunn as once again a ginger wicket keeper for the green had more Byes than Andrew Woodhouse's house parties.
Pies and Pints enjoyed by all and bring on next weeks local Derby at Boxted. Q MP
- C minus. A reasonable attempt but some howling spelling, syntax and grammatical errors. See me. AW
