Eight Ash Green Cricket Club PieRates XI v Gt Horkesley & L on Wed 29 Apr 2015 at 18:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets
Match report
On Wednesday the PIErates met on a somewhat surprisingly sunny evening, the early afternoon rain had stopped to let the PIErates play.
The toss was valiantly lost again by Captain Woodhouse which as it seems wasn't a bad loss. Matt Parker opened to bowling attack well with humidity in the air he was swinging the ball well. His stats speak for themselves with only 8 runs from 3 overs in a 12/12 game really piled on the pressure. So much so that A.Eaton chipped the ball from Matt's 'slower ball' to captain Drew at mid-on only for it to be juggled in the captains hands before dropping on the floor. Matt finally got his wicket with an outswinger tempting the batsmen and for it to be edged to Jamie Murray keeping.
Ollie Stovellio down the other end was unfortunate to get no wickets as multiple drops from Charlie Lovejoy at close midwicket which proved costly as the batsmen went on to score 35.
The return of the clubs number 2 candidate for Chairman Dominic Purser came on to bowling offering a inswinging action to catch out the high scorer caught by brother JP, his consistent bowling at the stumps got the captain Mr Angry out for a low score.
Captain Butterfingers meanwhile started to bowl down the other end, without much confidence from the umpire and El Presidente who turned to one team member and said " Watch this he is going to get smacked". The president trying to gather his words back as by the time of tight bowling and one C&B by the captain (which he dropped earlier) ensured a good spell.
All to set up Nippy for his PIErates debut over on a 12 yard run up, first ball digging into the wet pitch found its way carrying to the bottom of the stump. However after such bouncer he got a wicket from a spoon up to bucket hands Keyboard.
A long wait for the the bowling team got a bit arduous after a while as the Green came into bat eventually man of the moment Luke Quicheboard came into bat retiring on 53 after a great knock. ( I am aware there isn't a large chunk on the Keeble's batting because he has got enough runs in two weeks Q.)
However, the track was not ideal to be batting on as yet another victim literally fell to a Keeble run out as JP was left stranded in the middle of the pitch only to sprint back and being just out of his crease.
Matt Norris making a lovely 5 of 14 balls shown that he had been watching too many test matches on his travels around the world. The stage was set however for the return of Mr Jonathan Jordan Joseph who had a lot to live up to after his golden duck last week. The crowd went silent as we saw Jordan prepare himself for a big entrance. As the ball was released from the bowler everything went into slow motion. The crowed poised on the edge of their seats. Jordan took a knee and played an almost identical shot as he did last week but to everybody's surprise he hit it! And well as it went for a four! A standing ovation followed by the capacity crowd, and the seats were shortly empty as people had seen what they had come for. 3 balls later he was out.
A mid order collapse followed with 5,6,&7 all scoring not many, in came Dom Purser and Ollie Stovellio- a partnership competing for Heat magazines couple of the year. They had enough to see the team through without the call up for Jamie and Matt's trade mark running between the wickets.
A good game overall topped off with a pie and a pint deal, which went down well. Afterwards came the fines, Matt Parker got fined for placing all the match fees in a lockable box, others for dropped catches and run outs. Pirate of the week went to Luke Seahorse for his 50 not out.
Thanks must go to scorer Dave Stovellio who scored in the high winds with his hair flailing in his face. Thanks to Richard Parker for his 12 Yard run up enforcement and umpiring. Also Simon Lovejoy for his pie cooking which was appreciated by everyone.
Why not check out our fixture list and come down for a pie and a pint deal that comes with our games.
