Match report The 2s arrived with a depleted side due to the wishes of players and their families to go on holiday during the summer holidays. That terrible lack of commitment meant the 10 man team arrived at West Bergholt aiming to collect whatever points they could that afternoon.
Losing the toss as normal, EAG were put into the field on a very hot day. Steve Nunn bowled tightly, his first 5 overs going for only 10 runs, but the heat must have had an effect on the other bowlers as West Bergholt raced along to 50 from 6.
Enter Captain Keeble. In his first (proper) spell of bowling this year, figures of 4-32 helped to stem the flow of runs, well assisted by the likes of James Belsham (2-74) and Tom Woodnott (2-36), leaving EAG with 250 to chase.
The chase started poorly, losing Belsham early, but steady progress was made. Silly shots and some good balls accounted for the rest of the top 4, which brought together Andrew Woodhouse and James Fisher. Looking to make up for his wayward bowling, Andrew blasted 53 off not many balls to take the Green into touching distance, before heaving one too many times and being clean bowled after a strong partnership of 69.
Fisher remained, and batted well with Barry Nunn (who said he'd much prefer to be playing cricket than relaxing on the beach that afternoon) before he himself was clean bowled for a fantastic 78 runs that got the Green close. Some inspired running from Richard Parker and Paul Hart meant that we were all out for 235.
A fantastic effort all round, claiming 10 points. A big thank you to all those who played and meant that the result was possible!
