Gt Totham v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 31 May 2015 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost 5 Wickets
Match report
Catches win matches but as the Green discovered at Gt. Totham if your batting and bowling is crap it doesn’t matter how many catches you take. On a wet, cold and windy day Captain Nunn lost the toss and unsurprisingly was asked to bat first. The innings got off to the worst possible start as James Parker was clean bowled largely thanks to an inability to see the ball out of the tree that was being used as the sight screen (James wouldn't be the last to use this excuse). After a few lusty blows, Charlie ‘The Shack’ Lovejoy followed in similar fashion. With the rain starting to get heavier, Keith Hammond and Nunn attempted to ‘dig in’ and see off the opening attack. However last ball before drinks, Nunn saw his middle stump cartwheel half way back to the pavilion. Hammond continued unfazed and having seen off the initial assault, started to open his arms whacking 11 4’s and 2 6’s in his magnificent 92. Several huge hits from Matt Chambers at the end saw the Green finish on 185 which everyone agreed was a pretty good total.
How wrong we were. Totham, helped by some wayward bowling capitalised on the short boundaries to get off to a flying start before Matt Parker took the first wicket. However the carnage continued as the ball flew off the bat to all corners of the ground. The 2nd wicket partnership put 90 on in just 10 overs. No bowler could stem the flow off runs and despite two late wickets for Alex Hammond, Totham reached their target in just 27 overs winning with consecutive 6’s.
All in all not a great day for the Green but despite the defeat, all the players played in the right manor and were rewarded with left over’s from the Sunday Roast in the pub across the road. Day not completely wasted!!!
