Match report Organise game at D&D’s request, spend hour or so getting team together across the week, a bit more when D&D organiser says ‘may be a couple short’, Wednesday comes, leave home 06.15 to drop son off at school for trip at 06.45, busy day in Ipswich, leave 16.30 to pick up other son get to EAG in time to open up, tidy up & prepare, EAG players turn up 17.30 to take in rope after groundsman prepared track, put out flags, by 18.15 four D&D players arrive, no attempt to make contact, text D&D skipper, he’s not coming as 'at school event' but they ‘should be 7 or 8’, add their 5 to our 13 & get game going with 9 a-side, 15 overs only, game ends (bit of fun), within 2 minutes D&D players depart, no ‘thank you’, no ‘goodbye’, no ‘can we contribute to costs?’, EAG players put back rope, I clean up, lock up pavilion, get home 10.00, go to bed, remember it’s also my birthday, finally get to open cards & gifts on Saturday morning, quietly reflect on why NHS is struggling.
