We’re Off! The Green has secured match funding for its environmental projects to continue our incredible work measuring, offsetting and reducing our carbon emissions over the past decade. Support from the Aviva Community Fund means that any donations to our Pavilion and Grounds and EV Chargers projects are matched by Aviva to a maximum of £50,000 and £30,000 respectively. Hurrah!
Our first project helps prevent further damage to our environment by minimising pavilion use of water and energy. It prepares our grounds for increasingly extreme weather by draining water during winter and storing it for summer. This project will …
- Install effective outfield drainage
- Harvest drainage and grey water for use later
- Install on-demand showers, taps and smart-flush toilets
- Replace single glazed windows and doors
- Insulate and clad existing single-skin walls and loft
- Install solar panels and battery storage
Our second project is to install EV chargers in our car park to encourage people to switch to electric vehicles. Electricity will be provided free of charge through sponsorship to members and opposition. This project will …
- Install and operate three EV chargers
- Provide sole use for members and opposition during matches and training
- Provide free sponsored electricity for members and opposition
- Enable use for locals village and heath visitors at all other times
These projects are both important and urgent. Cricket is the pitch sport most affected by climate change, and The Green has already lost two months of games due to increasingly wet weather. They will help protect recreational cricket at Eight Ash Green for members, opposition and locals for another 75 years. Please support them when our Crowdfunding page is published. Details will be shared shortly.
