In yet another world first, The Green launches CAR SHARE SCORECARDS this weekend. We’ve spent literally minutes making these for the three senior man and women's teams. Youth section to follow. Here’s how it works …
Our world first 3D cricket carbon calculator bases transport emission estimates on all 11 players driving to a fixture. FYI this week that totals 290 kgs of carbon. Car sharing reduces this, and last week JP and the Second XI scored a 4 by taking only 7 cars (4+7=11 Matt).
In reality, the most a team can ever score is 10 by using a minibus for all players. There isn’t a 10 in cricket yet but it’s only a matter of time before The Hundred invents one. So more realistic is a maximum 8 where players share 3 cars, which if electric, means we have zero emissions. Hurrah!
A couple of issues here to start thinking about: car sharing with youth players (guidance on way) and kit bags. Four players in one car will only happen if we revert to team kitbags rather than individual ‘coffins’. Who will be brave enough to start this trend (and slash emissions from unnecessary kit and clothing manufacture too)?
Don’t worry, its not all maths - Carbon Champions is supposed to be FUN. JP’s 2nd XI are the first score a 4, so who will be the first to score a 6? Rewards for these and all the scores in between on the way. Oh, and penalties for teams that don’t bother aka Carbon Zeroes. You have been warned.
