*GREENPIECE* - MURRAY, MACDONALD & WORLD CUP FINALS

27 Jun 2018

1’s Fall Short @ Coggeshall

An under-par Green came up short in all areas to be well beaten by a strong Coggeshall team.
We chose to bat on what looked on first appearance to be a road, but the wicket offered something to all the bowlers; the opening pair were particularly accurate and challenging. The skipper came in at 4 and having played himself in then accelerated towards the end of the innings to reach an unbeaten 82 ball century, an innings that the locals referred to as one of the best tons they had seen for some time; can't argue with that it also won him the Col Brewery Man of the Match. We reached 228 due to a mature 37 from Jamie Murray. The home team responded to the challenge with a strong opening partnership, perhaps helped by an off-key start for the Green. Unfortunately, this was not a good day for the fielders, as catches went down and miss-fields contributed to the scoring rate. The Green now go away to Elmstead.

2’s Trump Maldon by 12!

An excellent win for the seconds under the astute captaincy of Neil Brinded!
Neil led the way with 40 at the start of the innings, James Plummer hit a quick 30, his highest senior score, then Bevin Guthrie (54*) and Calum McDonald(26*) boosted the total up to 186 thanks to an unbroken stand of 45 off the final 5 overs. Despite putting down some hard chances tight bowling by Bevin, Calum & Troy Collins restricted Maldon to 174, 12 runs short. A fantastic result for the 2s who needed the win to boost their confidence! They face ‘local lads’ West Bergholt at the Green this Saturday.

Youth Report

Our U15 team are still looking for their first win of the season - but are competing well. An excellent 74 from Tom Lee was not enough to secure victory against Kelvedon, with the green going down by just 25 runs.

The U11 are fairing much better with a third win of the season, this time against Great Totham. An exciting game saw the green grab victory at the death by just 2 runs.

ENGLAND GAME ON THE BIG SCREEN

It’s coming home!

We do not have the England vs Belgium game on the big screen tomorrow at the Green. However, we will be showing their first knockout game on the Monday or Tuesday depending on how we get on tomorrow. Come on up as we will have Colchester Breweries World Cup Beer! Perfect for weather like this!

EAGCC on the Airwaves

William Brand, James Woodcock, Sophie Spicer and Sam Collins were all interviewed by Victoria Polley at our recent Kwik cricket festival.
You can listen to what  they had to say on BBC Essex's Around the Wicket here at about 2 hours 45 minutes in.

Kwik Cricket Festival

On Friday 15 June EAG CC hosted a fabulous Kwik Cricket festival on the heath. Over 100 youths plus 250 parents, helpers and supporters converged to compete in fun and competitive matches including an amazing 30 youths from EAG CC alone. The success of the festival was due to the hard work of Ian Wild and Kathryn Spicer, all our incredibly supportive youth parents, our excellent groundsmen especially Mick Purser, our coaches, senior players and committee. A true team effort that delivered great results.

Let's do it all again for our woman's festival on 6 July!
