Top of the table

26 Jun 2018

EAG CC joined in with World Cup fever by holding a table football competition following the 2nd XI game against Maldon last Saturday.

We could have done with more teams but those that joined in - youth to adult, men and women - all seemed to enjoy the challenge. A few players (you know who you are) were super competitive - which added to the fun when they were eliminated from the competition!

On the tables, each team took part in a round robin league competition which led to knock out matches.

The first semi-final saw an unbeaten Spain (Da Silva senior and junior) go down 6-5 to a golden goal winner by Uzbekistan (yep, really) in the guise of Neil Brinded and Jonathan Purser. Poacher Brinded an undoubted man of the match in this tie.

The other semi-final saw Belgium (Sam Collins and Nick White-Robinson) sneak past France (Alastair & James Woodcock) 6-5 in the tightest of matches.

Spain beat France to finish third before the World Cup final was contested between Uzbekistan and Belgium. The occasion seemed to get to the minnows of Uzbekistan with Belgium starting strongly before completing a 7-3 victory. Well done Nick and Sam!
