GreenPiece

19 Apr 2018

Sorry for the delay pre-season preparation has been fully underway! This weeks GreenPiece is brought to you by our Chairman Richard Polley

The first Saturday of the new season is nearly upon us,and it promises to an exciting 70th season for Eight Ash Green Cricket club. From this weekend the clubs various teams will be involved in over 100 matches in the 2018 season.
The committee have been working hard over the winter to secure funding for covers, sponsorship for sight screens and other improvements to the ground and pavilion to enhance the facilities at the club.
It’s a costly business running a cricket club and we are very grateful to all Sponsors of the Club, we display these prominently on our website and urge you to support them where you can.

On the playing front the 1sts are competing in Division 4 of the Two Counties League, the highest level for many seasons, 2nds in Div 9S and Sundays offer more competitive matches in NECL Div 2 that we have experienced in the last few seasons. The senior set up is completed by the PIErates moving to Tuesday nights, and the Ladies fixtures on Friday nights.

The Youth section have a full fixture list across the age ranges including Kwik cricket, as well as hosting the Family Open morning on April 29th and our Kwik cricket festival in June.

Full details of all fixtures are on our excellent website, and results will be updated as the season progresses.

For the players and those officiating there are several important rule changes for 2018. I would recommend looking at the Players Guide to Key law Changes in 2018 on the ECB website, in addition the NECL have also highlighted the main changes that are likely to affect club cricket, I will post these on our website. So if you want to know the penalty for ‘Mock fielding’ and the new rules concerning helmets please spend a few minutes familiarising yourself with these changes. Player availability is key at all levels, please assist those who are selecting teams by updating your availability on a regular basis through the website, any issues with access contact Matt Parker who will be happy to sort any these out.

For the non players we will give you good notice of the social events happening during the season, e start with the unveiling of the Life Members Board in the pavilion on May 5th 8pm. You are not restricted to social events you are most welcome to come along and support whichever team is playing at home.

We look forward to seeing you.

70 seasons is a history to be proud of, to all players past and present and those non playing members that support the club, lets make the 70th season one to remember!
