EAG collect Champions trophy

At the recent Two Counties Cricket Championship Dinner, Eight Ash Green received the Division 6 Champions trophy. Fittingly, it was Player of the Year Mark Goodall who collected the trophy from Mike Watkinson (ex Lancashire and England).

The Green were well represented at the dinner and posed collectively with the trophy afterwards.

28 Sep 2015 : Best Season Ever!
Best Season Ever!

Yesterday’s resounding 10 wicket victory secured promotion for the Sunday XI and completed the most successful season ever for ‘The Green’.

Add to the above, the Two Counties XI Division 6 title, the PIErates Colchester Midweek League and Cup triumph, and a credible fourth for the young Saturday Two Counties 2nd XI, all sides have had a season to be proud of.

All teams were well led by their respective captains Alastair Hammond (1stXi), Luke Keeble (2ndXI), Stephen Nunn (Sunday XI) & Andrew Woodhouse (PIErates). This coupled with, in general, good availability, laid the foundation to play good competitive winning cricket.

There were some fantastic individual performances during the season, more 100’s than in any other season, all recorded on the website, and match winning bowling performances to match.

The awards night was held on Saturday and the winners are detailed on the website.  A big thank you to all players who made themselves available throughout the season, and played the game in the right spirit.

I would like to highlight one award, Clubman of Year. There are so many people who work very hard for the Club, if I start to list them I might leave someone out and offend them!

So choosing a Clubman of the Year wasn’t easy, our financial situation is on a sounder footing thanks to Richard Parker’s efforts in attracting sponsors, and Penny Lovejoy in her role as membership secretary.

But three people have put a lot of hours into the club during the course of the season.

Stephen Nunn, Luke Keeble and Andrew Woodhouse supported the youth section with many sessions of coaching both indoors and outside as well as attending youth matches and tournaments. In addition to this they each captained a side and put work in behind the bar. It was difficult to separate them so I didn’t and all three were named Clubman of the Year.

In many ways this emphasized the spirit of the club. On the field the club’s success was shared by the exploits of many players and off the field the work was spread amongst an increasing number of hard working people,

Thanks to all members who made 2015 a season to remember for Eight Ash Green CC

13 Sep 2015 : Division 6 Champions
Division 6 Champions

When promotion was achieved with two games to go, it was clear the Green 1st XI weren’t going to rest on their laurels. The title was duly achieved on Saturday with a 10 wicket win over Long Melford.

A solid bowling and fielding display provided the four points required, then Keith Hammond and James Parker scored the 135 needed with a terrific unbroken opening partnership.

A great victory to end a superb Two Counties season. Well done to Alastair Hammond and every single player who has represented the 1st XI this season.

25 Aug 2015 : Promotion!

A huge well done to Alastair Hammond and the 1st XI on achieving promotion up to Division 5 of the Two Counties with a hard fought victory at St Oysth on Saturday.

Having only lost twice this season, promotion has been achieved with two games to spare- not that they will be resting on their laurels. Over the next two home games they have the opportunity to edge out season long rivals Nowton to the title.

The success has been built upon a solid team effort with important contributions from a large number of players, the win at Nowton, the one wicket victory over West Mersea and a ‘winning’ tie at Worlingworth have showed great resolve within the group.

Their next home game forms part of cricket week at Green on Saturday 29th when Felixstowe Corinthians are the visitors. Come and support our promotion winning team.

17 Aug 2015 : The Greatest Weekend ever for the Green?
The Greatest Weekend ever for the Green?Well maybe not quite but it was certainly a weekend to remember as all 4 senior teams won in style.

It all started on Friday evening as the PieRates led by Andrew Woodhouse recovered from 7-5 to beat the Real Oddies to be crowned champions of the Colchester Trophies Evening League. Not bad for our first season in the competition!

The result of the weekend came from the Saturday 1st XI who crushed top of the league Nowton by 8 wickets to take the team within a point of promotion. Woodhouse with 6-18 to blow Nowton away.

The Second XI continued their brilliant season with a 75 run win against Cavaliers thanks largely to a wonderful first hundred from Oli Stovell and 4 wickets for 14 year old Will Spicer!

And the Sunday XI completed our winning weekend by comprehensively beating Stebbing by 6 wickets to leapfrog them into second place. Captain Nunn taking a hat trick!

Overall an incredible weekend for the club. Well done to every player, scorer and umpire involved. Up the Green!

JACK PETCHEY AWARD WINNERS Congratulations to Will Spicer & Calum Mcdonald who have won the Spring Jack Petchey Award!
Will has broken in to the Saturday 2nd XI this year returning a string of impressive performances as the team made a flying start to the season. He’s also been a great role model for other youth players as Captain of the Under 14’s, hitting 64 as the Green recorded their first victory against Witham. Like Will, Calum has also broken in the 2nd XI and has improved with every game he has played taking 3-12 against Coggeshall. Clearly Calum enjoys playing Coggeshall as he also hit a brilliant 60 against them for the Under 14’s.

Both players will receive one on one bowling coaching with the money they have won as well as buying new training equipment for the youth section.

Congratulations boys!

09 May 2015 : David Polley
It is with great sadness that we announce that David Polley passed away on Saturday.

A long serving and immensely popular member of The Green, David has finally lost his long battle with cancer.  He was just fifty.

Our thoughts are with wife Colette, brother Richard, Carol, Alice, Victoria and all the other members of his very close family.

A minute's silence will be held before today's games. Funeral details to follow.  El Presidenté.
