20 Dec 2009 : Youth Section has best ever Season!
Youth Section has best ever Season! EAGCC Youth Section had a fantastic night at the recent Youth Awards evening when every team were winners or runners up in every division they played in. A great effort!

08 Oct 2009 : End of Season Summary

Eight Ash Green Cricket Club seniors had a season of mixed fortunes. The Saturday Development XI was relegated from their division, despite finishing outside the relegation places due to a league shake up. On Sundays both 1st and 2nd XI sides finished mid-table and the Ladies sides narrowly missed out on the chance to play at the Essex county ground in the finals of their league. The club has risen to most challenges and has a strong core of players further bolstered by the latest crop of colts coming through, who have a strong club centric attitude.

Our Youth section is one of the largest in the area and fielded no fewer than six teams ranging from Kwik Cricket (Primary School) to Under 16s. All teams did really well in their divisions and a couple of teams probably topped their tables. More importantly, the club’s investment in coaching and the kind use of facilities at Holmewood House (we just don’t have the space to play and train with so many children) meant skills really developed. And we had lots of fun too!

We are always keen to welcome players of all ages and indoor nets will start early next year. Keep an eye on our web site at www.eagcc.com for event, match and contact details. If regular playing is not your thing then we hope to have a game as part of the village Fun Day next year when you can reveal your hidden talents! Spectators are always welcome at any game – just pop in and ask for a fixture card from behind the bar. If I’m playing I might even buy you a beer. Cheers!

Tom Lissimore, Club Chairman.

14 Aug 2009 : Review of the Kwik Cricket Season
The Kwik cricket season has again been a very fun and enjoyable one. We have had 20 youngsters attending training regularly on a Monday evening at the club and everyone of them has represented the club at least once during the season. We attended 5 tournaments in all, Great Bromley, Elmstead, West Mersea, Brightlingsea and Dedham. We also hosted our own event at the beginning of July on a gorgeous summer evening- that is the truth!

We have worked with a range of experiences of the game during the season and have put out at least 2 teams at each tournament. The highlight of the season were

* every player having a go at everything and doing their best- batting, bowling, wicket keeping and fielding.

*both our teams, intermediates and seniors winning their groups at the West Mersea tournament. The intermediates were unbeaten.

*the senior boys of George Barron, Will Whitfield, Sam Clark, Jono Matthews, James Rolfe, George Holroyd, Thomas Hacket. Oliver Goddard and Jordan Milburn improving their fielding skills brilliantly. Their awareness of field positions, the importance of team work and decision making was great to see. On occasions their bowling was spot on too- we can work on consistency in the coming years.

*the youger boys enthusiasm for the game- Jamie and Christian Martin, Jed Leeson, Peter Jonas and Elliot Littlebury and how quickly they have developed their skills. It was great to see their delight in hitting the 4s and beginning to learn how to bowl

*the determination to improve their all round skills shown by the intermediate boys Richard Greaves, Edward Holroyd, Oliver Eves, Alex Wayman,Freddie Rhys-Lewis and Max Williams. They were justly rewarded in their many winning performances . The team work and encouragement of one another was superb.

Well done to you all.

Finally, I would like to thank Mark Eves for helping out this season with the coaching. I would also like to thank the parents for getting the boys to training and to the matches and for helping out to make our own tournament such a good fun evening for everyone.

See you next season if not before.

Steve Whitfield, Manager

REVIEW

I wasn’t sure what to expect after the team’s mixed season last year. Priority was to build the team and we were without doubt the best turned out, hardest working, best disciplined, most punctual and most hospitable team in our league (and dare I suggest, the EAGCC youth section, maybe!). The side matured slowly from twelve individuals to a team. You have been consistently available and consistently supportive of each other – well done. Fun and skills led to wins and we won 7 out of 8 fixtures and stand a very good chance of winning our division.

NEXT YEAR

There are unlikely to be limits on batting or bowling so players will have to start specialising in roles more. Yet more focus on Long Term Athletic Development (aka fitness and agility), more individual training (more coaches) and more fixtures needed. Bring it on!

BATSMAN OF THE YEAR

This was our weakest area by far and we still tend do two things wrong every game ... hitting across the line and wafting into the air. Lots of more work needed. Innings of note included Richard Nunn away at Frinton, Nathan Scarff and Jake Claydon’s great opening stand vs. Dedham and Matthew Pyatt’s great knock to beat West Bergholt. The Batsman of the Year however was Sam Ward who not only scored most runs (70), top scored (32) and topped the averages too (17.5) – no mean feat in his first year of cricket!

BOWLER OF THE YEAR

With the focus so much on batting (we did no bowling practice at all) our bowling was exceptional. Our opening attack of Josh and Isaac Chapman tore the heart out of most teams with great back up from most of the other players too. The Bowler of the Year however was Matt Dunlop whose great off spin saw his best figures of 3-3 and an average of just 4.5.

PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Lots of nominations here. Newcomer Peter Bartholomew took three great catches against Elmstead, newcomer Sam Ward topped the bowling (but only one over!) and batting and showed great fielding skills, Jake Egner took three catches in a game and batted and bowled consistently well, Lawrence Riches for his knock to win the game at Elmstead, Leighton O-C for a great diving catch away at Elmstead and Duncan Drake for showing great spirit when getting injured. It was really tough, but the winner(s) though are Isaac and Josh Chapman for outstanding bowling every match.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

This was much easier. Captain Richard Nunn for great leadership, maturity, fielding and batting and bowling. First to arrive and last to leave he has consistently been an inspiration to all his players and a major factor in winning 7 out of 8 games.

Well done to you all. Enjoy the break and see you next season if not before.

Richard Parker, Manager

PS Pictures on the way!

11 Jul 2009 : U16 TEAM NEWS

Sadly, West Bergholt have pulled out of our match on Sunday - it is such a shame that other teams are struggling raise sides when we have 20 players to choose from!

We will shortly be picking a team for next Wednesday's match v. Halstead. Reminder: no training on Tuesday July 13th.
