Eight Ash Green Cricket Club News story

Best Season Ever!

28 Sep 2015

Yesterday’s resounding 10 wicket victory secured promotion for the Sunday XI and completed the most successful season ever for ‘The Green’.

Add to the above, the Two Counties XI Division 6 title, the PIErates Colchester Midweek League and Cup triumph, and a credible fourth for the young Saturday Two Counties 2nd XI, all sides have had a season to be proud of.

All teams were well led by their respective captains Alastair Hammond (1stXi), Luke Keeble (2ndXI), Stephen Nunn (Sunday XI) & Andrew Woodhouse (PIErates). This coupled with, in general, good availability, laid the foundation to play good competitive winning cricket.

There were some fantastic individual performances during the season, more 100’s than in any other season, all recorded on the website, and match winning bowling performances to match.

The awards night was held on Saturday and the winners are detailed on the website.  A big thank you to all players who made themselves available throughout the season, and played the game in the right spirit.

I would like to highlight one award, Clubman of Year. There are so many people who work very hard for the Club, if I start to list them I might leave someone out and offend them!

So choosing a Clubman of the Year wasn’t easy, our financial situation is on a sounder footing thanks to Richard Parker’s efforts in attracting sponsors, and Penny Lovejoy in her role as membership secretary.

But three people have put a lot of hours into the club during the course of the season.

Stephen Nunn, Luke Keeble and Andrew Woodhouse supported the youth section with many sessions of coaching both indoors and outside as well as attending youth matches and tournaments. In addition to this they each captained a side and put work in behind the bar. It was difficult to separate them so I didn’t and all three were named Clubman of the Year.

In many ways this emphasized the spirit of the club. On the field the club’s success was shared by the exploits of many players and off the field the work was spread amongst an increasing number of hard working people,

Thanks to all members who made 2015 a season to remember for Eight Ash Green CC
