Brightlingsea v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 26 Jul 2026 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Eight Ash Green won the toss and decided to bowl first.

James Woodcock and Finley Barnard opened the bowling, with James producing his best bowling figures of 4 wickets for 12 runs and Finley unluckily finishing wicketless for 14 runs, both from 5 overs.

On his Sunday debut Edward Brown bowling spin took a wicket with his second ball, but Jonathan Wheatley came in and promptly hit his next 4 balls down the ground for 4, whereupon I made the decision to take Edward off and put Joshua Eustace on to bowl seam, which with a combination of the faster pace and players fielding at long off, long on, deep extra cover and deep mid wicket stopped the flow of runs. Jonathan Wheatley retired not out at 50, but when all of the other wickets had fallen he came back to bat and finished on 60 not out.

Henry Warner had requested to have a go at keeping wicket before the end of the season, so today he done just that. At the end of the innings he said 'it was harder than it looks and probably will not want to be wicket keeper again'.

We could not manage to take the 10th wicket and Brightlingsea scored 140 for 9 from the allocated 30 overs.

Eight Ash Green then went into bat and for me personally it was a very intense over.

First ball/first appeal hit James Woodcock on the front pad pushing forward and just getting his front leg outside of the line of the off stump and run a leg bye.
Second ball/second appeal ball angled in and Stuart Simpson shuffled across the crease and was hit clean in front of the stumps, so i give him out lbw.
Third ball/third appeal a yorker ball hits Joshua Eustace on the back foot right in front of the stumps, so give him out lbw,
Fourth ball Thomas Riley gets an inside edge and goes for 4 runs
Fifth ball Thomas Riley is bowled
Sixth ball/fourth appeal Henry Warner was hit on the pads, but is too high to consider and they run a leg bye.

James Woodcock & Henry Warner then bat very sensibly putting on well over a 100 run partnership with firstly Henry Warner retiring not out at 50 and then James Woodcock.

Kayden Jayasena hit the winning runs for Eight Ash Green to win by 6 wickets.

James Woodcock man of the match for his performance with the ball and bat.
