Copford II v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) on Sat 27 Jun 2026 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 22 runs
Match report
This was an exciting and close game, our first close game of the year. They are always the best ones to win. EAG 2nd XI went to top of the league Copford, looking to extend our unbeaten run to five matches and usurp the hosts at the top of the table.
EAG lost the toss but were delighted to be put into bat. Richard Polley got us off to a terrific start with two boundaries in the first over, before falling soon after, one of six players to be caught in our innings. Attacking knocks from Nitja Patel (23), Nico Dormant (34) and Nihal Jayasooria (17) followed but we struggled to get notable partnerships going. The Amos pair of Connor and Glen gave us a decent middle of the innings, but we failed to capitalise in the last ten overs, ending on 170-9 off our 40 overs, a score which felt 20-30 runs short of par.
Copford made a decent, event paced reply, but the run rate slowed when Nitja Patel and Connor Amos joined the bowling attack. At halfway the required run rate had reached 5.25 and Copford needed to push. As they did, wickets inevitable fell with EAG fielding, once again, delivering when it was needed. Copford were always a couple of good overs from success but those overs never came and they were dismissed for 148 in the 36th over, 22 short of the required total.
When push came to shove, EAG bowling and fielding was the difference. Dev Agrawal light the spark when he returned for his second spell and was deservedly player of the match.
Five wins on the bounce and EAG 2nd XI sit proudly at the top of the division. How long can the winning streak last?
