Match report Disappointing end to a strong season

Friday night saw the last league game for the Green ladies. Following disappointment at home against Colchester last week, the Green were keen to return to winning ways and give themselves a chance to go through to the league semi-finals for the first time in quite a while! The fact that the team were even in this position gives credit to a strong season. Captain Cutter continued her form with the toss and Mistley chose to bat first.

Hannah Finbow-Jeffrey opened the bowling and had a couple of very close balls, as did Minal Patel, the other opener. The Green ladies worked commendably in the field, chasing down balls and fielding in pairs which was great to see. The return of Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield behind the wicket also added to the strength in the field. However, it took nearly half the innings for the first wicket to come – a fantastic caught and bowled by Captain Cutter. She also went on to take the penultimate wicket for the Green, bowling a tight LBW. Hannah returned to bowl, restricting the run rate and bowling a wicket maiden to finish the innings. Mistley had scored 103 and the chase was on!

An opening partnership of Hannah and Dimps made a good start but it was cut short when Dimps was caught on 10. This brought Minal to the crease who turned out to be the only player to retire out this innings (and go back in!). Some steady scoring from her meant a retirement on 25. Unfortunately, the other ladies could not emulate this and ended with single figure scores. By the time Minal returned at the end, there was a very steep mountain to climb which the Green could not manage and they ended up 10 runs short on 93. A tough end to a strong season. The Green ladies have been cheered this year by the return of some familiar faces and the joining of some lovely new ones – who we very much hope will return next year. A good season to build on and some end of season ‘friendlies’ still to come! Green Army!
