Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Women's XI v EASTON on Sun 02 May 2021 at 11AM
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost
Match report
The day dawned brightly on the Women’s XI debut in the Vitality Women's T20 Cup. With only a single training session under their belts, the women were a heady mix of nerves and excitement. Continuing her outstanding form from last season, Captain Cutter again lost the toss and the Green were put into bat first.
A now familiar opening partnership of Amy Finbow-Jeffery and Dianne ‘Dimps’ Pasfield took to the field. Amy succumbed quickly to an interesting ball that turned out to be straight, leaving Libby Knifton to come in at number 3. It was a superb knock from Libby, including six 4s, before she was finally bowled, leaving the field on 35. The Green then rather collapsed in the middle order, leaving the majority of the remaining runs to sensational Dimps (apple) who batted the entire innings, earning a well deserved 53*.
With 98 on the board to defend, fielding was always going to be a tough challenge. Experienced opener, Debbie Green, put in an accurate performance, bowling no wides and no no balls. However, playing under different rules to the Friday night league meant the Green suffered quickly from different fielding restrictions and rules around wides and no balls and the batters took full advantage of the situation. The Green were chased down in just 13 overs, taking just one wicket – an excellent catch by Amy off the bowling of Sophie Spicer.
A tough day with limited practice against strong opposition. The ladies are looking forward to a couple more training sessions to shake off the winter frost before hitting the ground running in the first league game of the season in a few weeks’ time.
