Match report A win at last.

The evening started well, with the announcement of the forthcoming arrival of another member of the Green Army – huge congratulations to Hannah and Amy Finbow-Jeffrey. In the absence of Captain Cutter, Vicky Wrycraft and Amy Finbow-Jeffrey took the lead and won the toss, electing to field first.

With the absence of Captain Cutter and other experienced bowlers, the inexperienced captain turned to Millie Green and Rachel Watson to open the bowling. Bowling then rotated through Max Harris, Sophie Spicer and Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield (who, yes, is normally our sensational wicket keeper!). With bowled wickets for Rachel and Max, and a caught behind for Sophie Spicer, the Green Army was marching on. A super run out for Libby Knifton off the bowling of Dimps, summed up some tight work in the field. Unfortunately, inexperience in the bowling led to an extras total of 42, with the batters only actually scoring 64. The chase was on!

In another change to the ‘normal’ structure, Dimps opened with Libby creating a good launch pad for the team. Strong batting at the top of the order saw both Libby and Amy reach 25 and retire, with Libby returning to the crease at the death for the last 2 balls. Good scores of 15 for Rachel and Dimps. With 3 overs to go, the run rate had dropped but with wickets in hand, the girls were swinging at everything! A ridiculous final few overs saw wickets, runs and gamesmanship from both sides!

A thrilling game, especially at the end, played in excellent spirits. Given that Sudbury actually scored 64 and the Green scored 96, it was an excellent display of batting, following recent hard work on the training ground. A bushel full of apples all round ladies – a great team effort! With the promise of the return of some more experienced bowlers next week, hopes are high for a good game at fortress Colchester! Green Army!
