Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Women's XI v Maldon Ladies on Sun 06 Sep 2020 at 10.30AM
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won
Match report
Actually, really, definitely the last ladies match of the season!
In a pleasing turn up for the books, the ladies managed to secure a date for Maldon ladies to visit The Green. Following a strong win away at Maldon, EAG ladies were relishing the chance to even the score to 4 wins and 4 losses for the season – quite an improvement on the record in recent times! The friendly format and a large squad for EAG meant that they were able to ‘lend’ players to Maldon for batting, bowling and fielding to ensure the game went ahead!
The EAG ladies opened the batting, with Minal Patel and Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield taking the strike initially. In a less than exhilarating innings for The Green, Patel was the highest scorer for the team with just 10 runs. Ironically, 3 of the EAG wickets were actually taken by 3 of the EAG bowlers in their ‘borrowed’ over for Maldon! A mere 67 was on the board – the lowest score for the ladies this season – and the pressure was on the bowlers to produce the same quality for their own team!
With experienced bowlers Patel and Debbie Green leading the way, The Green mounted their attack. All the bowlers contributed well: Debbie Green took 2 for 12, Patel bowled 4 overs for just 11 runs, Sophie Spicer bowled a maiden over, Millie Green took 2 wickets (a relief as she had bowled Captain Cutter out in the first innings!) and Georgina Barnard took 3 super wickets for just 7 runs. But this was eclipsed by a captain’s innings from Karen Cutter (TP), not only taking 3 wickets for just 2 runs (including 2 back-to-back wickets) but also a stunning catch to end the innings. Despite support from EAG batters, Maldon scored just 53 in reply to The Green’s 67.
It may not have been the highest scoring game of the season but the EAG ladies showed their grit and determination when it was needed. A fun game played in great spirits was a fitting end to the season – well played ladies! C’mon The Green!
