In a turn of form, for the first time this season, EAG ladies team won the toss away at Colchester CC and elected to field first. A devastating opening spell by Hannah Finbow-Jeffrey dismissed both opening batsmen for just one run. More experienced third and fourth batsmen came in for Colchester and challenged the fielding placements for The Green. Once they had adapted to the new batters, the ladies stemmed the flow of runs before wicketkeeper Diane ‘Dimps’ Passfield threw an accurate ball to dismiss the batsman for a frustrating 24. A chase of 102 was on!

The Green started their chase with an early reprieve – opener Amy Finbow-Jeffrey caught deep in the field off a high ball which was fortunately ruled a no ball by the umpire. Amy and Dimps both made a good start, seeing off the pace of the opening bowlers, but neither were able to capitalise. After a stunning performance last week, Minal Patel was up the order at number 3. To the joy of her batting partners, she was once again keen to run the singles, hitting 16 before controversially being given out lbw. The ladies were going well, with wickets in hand, but in need of some speedy runs so captain Cutter turned to Libby Knifton (TP). Libby did not disappoint, finishing on a super 20 not out, including two 4s. Unfortunately, her valiant effort was in vain, with The Green ending their 20 overs on 82 for 6

Although disappointed in defeat, the ladies’ team were pleased to note that the loss was only about 1 run an over. A few mis-fields, a few unrun singles and the game slipped out of reach. Beaten tonight but certainly not out-played. This fills the team with confidence to tackle Maldon away next week – c’mon The Green!
