Match report The Green fall just short.

On the hottest day of the year so far, the Green ladies made the trip to Sudbury, flying high after a couple of back-to-back wins. They took to the field first in high spirits.

Captain Cutter was spoilt with a plethora of bowlers. Katie Suckling and Minal Patel opened, with Katie taking the first wicket following a safe catch by Sue Miller (apple). Minal too took a wicket in her second over, with super figures of 1-8. The Green were making good progress with Max Harris and Debbie Green taking wickets in the 8th and 11th overs respectively. Sudbury, however, continued to score steadily and the Green struggled to take further wickets until Hannah Finbow-Jeffrey cleaned up two at the end. The Green had a chase on of 121 to win.

With the absence of any of the usual opening batters, Hannah and Minal bravely took on the role. Minal was bowled for 6 bringing Libby Knifton-Mead to the crease. Libby called for a run off her second ball and unfortunately Hannah was short of her crease when a stunning direct hit came in. Libby was unlucky to lose her wicket not long after Emma Rhodes, both to good catches by the Sudbury number 1. There were also notable scores from Katie (17) and Captain Cutter (19 not out) but an excellent display from Sue, scoring 14 including two 4s, ensured the tail had some wag. Unfortunately, it was not quite enough and the Green finished on 102 – 19 runs short of victory. A close evening but we couldn’t quite make the runs. On to next week. Green Army!
