Match report Did someone say double?

Last Friday saw the Green ladies playing away at Mistley. A lovely ground that often gives a home advantage, and without the illustrious Captain Cutter, the Green ladies were not assured a win. The return of some experienced players, however, bolstered morale and the Green went into bat.

Rachel Watson and Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield opened, continuing their excellent form from last week, both retiring on 26 and 25 respectively. Dimps produced an interesting display of the reverse sweep off the leg side, missing one, tapping one for 1 and finally getting hold of one which made it to the boundary for a 4 – excellent confidence to persevere! Mindy Irven settled and got her eye in before falling to a spectacular catch in the deep field. Huge credit goes to Emma Rhodes (apple) who returned from enjoying last week’s super sub performance. She batted at 5 with the experienced Hannah Finbow-Jeffrey at 4. A stunning 21 followed, including three 4s, before she was bowled – what an amazing first innings! Hannah also retired on 28 which included five 4s (almost all straight down the ground!). This brought Debbie Green and Viv Barnard to the crease. Some cheeky edges from both allowed the Green to set a strong 146 as a target.

After a quick turn around, the Green came out to field with a spectacular bowling display. Openers Hannah and Georgina Barnard bowled 4 overs between them, restricting the opposition to 2-8 – Georgina having a maiden over followed by a wicket maiden – stunning! Mistley’s opener and 4th batters then attempted to build a partnership, digging in. But the Green seriously limited the run rate – Mistley were at just 29 after 10 overs. After her excellent batting display, Emma took to bowling too (having learnt how to do it on Tuesday night!). Going for just 10 off her 2 overs, she’s absolutely one to watch! A super run out from Debbie removed the opener for 23 and effectively ended any hope Mistley had left. They ended their innings on just 73, only half of the score from the Green! What a stunning win for the Green ladies – doubled the opponent’s score! The Green Army marches on!
