Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
A nail-biting finish against Sudbury
Friday night saw the return of Sudbury to the Green, following the EAG ladies’ success away there a few short weeks ago. The Green ladies took to the field first, missing usual opening bowler Hannah Finbow-Jeffrey. Minal Patel (apple), however, filled the space beautifully, taking 2 back-to-back wickets at the end of her second over, one being an excellent caught and bowled. Patel also took a fantastic catch off the bowling of Georgina Barnard in the innings. 2 bowled wickets were also taken by Max Harris, although with slightly more expensive figures of 2 for 24. The other bowlers shared the wickets, with one a piece. The ladies were all pleased to see Debbie Green return to the attack, bowling for the first time since injury on the field last year. A seasoned bowler, she still managed one wicket off her 2 overs, going for only 8 runs. We look forward to seeing more of her in games to come. Sudbury just about lasted the overs and the Green were set an achievable target of 96 to win.
Dianne Pasfield and Rachel Watson resumed their opening partnership, patiently waiting out the opening bowlers and taking their chances where they could. Watson fell early to a catch in the field, attempting to push up the run rate. Patel and Mindy Irven exited quite quickly, meaning an early start for the middle order. Captain Cutter steadied the ship with Pasfield, seeing the opener to 27 retired, before being bowled (BNBW). With 2 overs to go, the Green needed 6 runs to win and the tail was required to work hard. A succession of dot balls and wides meant the Green needed one run to win off the last ball. A heroic effort by the oldest and youngest players on the field, Sue Miller and Georgina Barnard, meant the team flew over the line, getting the one run required – what an exciting finish! An excellent evening, played in good spirits, and another win for the Green ladies! Green Army!
