Match report Super Sophie stunning at Sudbury!

On a glorious Monday evening, the Green ladies were invited to play at Sudbury in their cricket week. The boundary was long but the Green took to the field first, hoping to protect it well.

The Green struck first with some great bowling from birthday girl Minal Patel, trapping their opening batter LBW. Sudbury fought back with their third batter hitting 5 fours on her way to 28 retired. The Green were running hard but there was a lot of boundary to cover! Then Sophie Spicer (red apple) came in to the attack, taking a massive 4 wickets for just 11 runs plus a maiden over thrown in for good measure. A stunning display from the youngster and the Green Army were back on top. A note-worthy 3 overs also from Karen ‘Stumpy’ Cutter (green apple), posting figures of 2 – 6 also with a maiden over. Some clever captaining from Cutter as well at the end of the innings meant Sudbury finished on 95.

The return started well with Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield and Rachel Watson making a strong start. Keen to make progress, they were finding the boundary and running the singles. Unfortunately, Dimps was then run out, leaving Minal to take up the baton. In unusual top order form, Rachel, Minal and Grace all failed to make double figures. Captain Cutter came in and steadied the ship with Georgina Barnard, with Cutter retiring out on 25. The run rate slowed but wickets remained. Unfortunately, there was no kick in the tail and Cutter was required to come back in to see out the innings, finishing on an unbeaten 29. Frustratingly, the Green ran out of overs, finishing on 76. However, in usual Green ladies form, spirits were not dampened by the loss, or the Monday night, and cake, drinks and dancing were all participated in at the end of the match – what a team!
