Match report THE IMPORTANCE OF COVERS

When I looked at the weather on Friday for the weekend I thought that the Saturday matches would be in doubt and we would play on the Sunday. Myself, Richard Polley & Steve Nunn put the covers on the wicket on Thursday evening to try to get the Saturday match played and with rain falling until the early hours of Saturday morning they done the job and we were able to play the 2nd team match.

Likewise the first team played there match away at Brockley who have exactly the same covers as Eight Ash Green except the guttering on their covers are not filled with tree debris.

We travelled to Galleywod not thinking that the game could get called off. Upon arriving we all could see that the wicket was very wet as it is open to the elements, but thought we might give it a go at playing, but then we had a heavy downpour and the umpires thought it best that we did not play. Whilst having a drink in the bar a further even heavier downpour arrived with strong gusts of wind which took the 2 gazebos, (which were put up as shelters for both teams to due COVID) cartwheeling across the field braking the frames and tearing the covers.
