‘The Great Barrier Reef’

On what was officially classed as the hottest day of the year so far, EAG ladies ventured into the unknown with an away fixture at Maldon – not a team they normally face. As is becoming tradition, Captain Cutter lost the toss and The Green were put into bat.

With an unexpectedly swift start, it fell to Vicky Wrycraft to open the batting with seasoned opener, Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield. They started well, lasting a few overs, before Wrycraft was bowled for 2. With Maldon unable to absorb the pressure of a strong Green line up, this was the only wicket to fall in the innings; Dimps, Minal Patel, Amy Finbow-Jeffrey, Libby Knifton all scored over 25 and retired not out while Hannah Finbow-Jeffrey (23) and Captain Karen Cutter (18) also finished the innings not out for The Green. A very impressive 157 was on the board for EAG ladies.

The bowling was delivered in similarly impressive form. There was a welcome return to the side of the Barnard family, both Mum, Viv, and daughter Georgina bowling some overs, including Georgina Barnard (TP) taking 2 wickets. There was also a pair each for Patel and Hannah and a spectacular caught and bowled for Knifton. Play in the field showed real teamwork and class with the ladies putting all their training to good use. As the light was fading, EAG ladies sealed their victory over Maldon who scored 93 off their 20 overs. The ladies were rightly proud of this display which will boost them going into a tough fixture at Mistley in just two days’ time. Green Army!
