Colchester v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U16 on Wed 02 Jul 2008 at 6.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 2 Runs
Match report
The Under 15 A team had their best result of the season so far with a 2 run win over Colchester, in what was an exciting finish at the Castle Park.
The Green batted first and got off to a great start with a 70 run opening partnership between Luke Keeble and Josh Lennard Jones. Josh was out in the 11th over for 31, but Luke continued his excellent batting display hitting 7 fours before he was eventually out for 45. The Green then lost a couple of quick wickets before Will Hopcroft 9 and Stephen Nunn 8 saw us through to a very competitive 107 for 4 off 16 overs. The match being shortened due to the approaching black clouds at the start of play.
The Colchester innings was soon in trouble thanks to a brilliant opening spell from Jack Smith and Giorgio D'Anna. Jack took two wickets in two balls in his opening over, and a sharp run out and a wicket by Giorgio saw Colchester
struggling at 17 for 4 off 6 overs. However Colchester rebuilt with a 60 run partnership between Savill and Thaeron which threatened to take the game away from the Green, until Matt Chambers broke the partnership in the 13th over.
Savill continued on his way to an eventual 54 not out and the last over of the match arrived with Colchester requiring 9 runs to win. Jack Smith was brought back to bowl at the 'death', and produced a perfect last over, conceeding only 5 runs and a leg bye.
A great all round team performance which led to a very satisfying victory.
