Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U16 v Colchester on Wed 14 May 2008 at 6.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost
Match report
This was the first meeting of the season between EAG and new found arch rivals Colchester. This rivalry is fuelled by the departure of Grammar school mate Nick "Traitor" Scott from Eight Ash Green to Colchester at the end of last season. Many of the team were eagerly anticipating the clash, and the chance to hit Scott for 6.
However, the match did not start as planned, as EAG batted and Scott took wickets with the first two balls of the match. The third wicket fell in the second over to bring Josh Lennard-Jones to the crease earlier than expected for the second time in two games. Lennard-Jones made a patient 27 whilst partners fell around him. EAG were bowled out in the 16th over for 60, the second highest score apart from extras (19) being 4.
The bowling went slightly better than the batting, but despite the best efforts of the bowlers, Colchester chased down the target in the 11th over for the loss of just one wicket.
Despite narrowly losing away to Colchester last year, and then beating them at home, both they and Kelvedon seem out of our depth this year, and it looks like we will have to look to Wivenhoe or Mistley to record a victory.
