Eight Ash Green Cricket Club PieRates XI v The Hospital Arms on Wed 27 May 2015 at 18 00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 9 runs
Match report
Unfortunately, the hospital arms didn't fill out our book so no stats for now at least unfortunately.
Great innings from Jonathan Purser and Andrew Woodhouse, both reaching the 25 run retirement mark. JP even hit the ball over the club house!
Also noteworthy was that Matt Parker opened the batting scoring 14; debutant Tom Lee (Tony's 11 year old son) bowled three excellent overs, taking one wicket (should have had another but his dad put the catch down at slip..!).
Luke Keyboard decided carting around his immense bulk had taken its toll on his joints - initially refusing to play at all. Eventually, a compromise was made of one extra pie after the game and he would get to play for the opposition. Keyboard exhibited real paedophobic qualities (yes, phobic means fearful of) in his merciless swinging against the 11 year old Lee Jr; the bottom of his bat predictably and irresistibly swinging in a bovine direction.
Richard Parker also resurrected his old masochistic rule whereby if (when keeping) over 5 byes were conceded, a jug must be purchased by the WK. Poor Steve Nunn, initially spurred by his opportunity to don the gloves for the PIEs was helpless against the hitler salute of umpire Presidenté who signalled byes for anything he remotely could. Well Steve, I supposed you'll just have to let byegones be bygones for this week (sorry).
A nail biting finish just prevented debutants Tom Lee and Ted Lowther from gaining the last 9 runs but a great sporting evening overall.
Roll on Chappel & Wakes Colne - most likely our biggest fixture. Please ensure availability is up to date for all fixtures.
