Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Gt Horkesley & L on Sun 20 Sep 2015 at 12:30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 52 Runs
Match report
Who would have predicted at the start of the season that going in to the penultimate game of the season the Green could still win the league? However that was just the position we found ourselves in on a cold, wet Sunday at Fordham Heath. Stood in the way however were Gt Horkesley & Lexden, current league leaders who themselves were hoping to wrap up the title while avenging the Greens incredible victory earlier in the season.
Captain Nunn won the toss and elected to field first on a very damp day. Goodall & Parker opened the bowling but despite impressive spells luck seemed to be going against the Green with Horkesley putting on 53 for the first wicket. However the introduction of Kelvedon defector Richard Nunn into the attack saw the momentum of the game quickly change. Bowling fast, full and straight Nunn blew away the Horkesley order as they fell to 96 for 8. Unfortunately sloppy fielding and an impressive 42* from Amin saw Horkesley add a crucial 63 for the last two wickets.
The Greens innings started in calamitous fashion with Jonny Purser and Alex Hammond both being ran out in the space of 3 balls, in Alex’s case without even facing. (Cheers for turning up pal!). Like so often in the past the Green collapsed falling to 55 for 8. Hopes of promotion fading away. A fighting partnership of 52 from the Nunn brothers gave a glimmer of hope but with overs running out Richard went for one big shot too many, bowled by Laitt for 25. Two balls later the Captain edge to slip and with it the match.
Congratulations to Gt Horkesley who were crowned champions with their victory. The Green however will have to wait until next week and the final game of the season to secure promotion.
