Match report This was an excellent team performance to get the season underway at last for EAG's U15s. Everyone contributed well to a splendid evening in the picturesque setting of Sudbury-on-Stour. Asked to field first with only eight players, the visitors seemed a little nervous. However, Matthew Wadling bravely stepped up to open the bowling, taking a wicket with only his third ball. Sam Pace also hit the off stump in his third over. Great catches were taken by Dominic Blanchard and Matthew, while Fergus Nightingale took a sharp stumping off the slow leg spin of Dominic. Josef Shone took a wicket with his first ball, a creditable achievement. All the fielders were kept busy, limiting the home side to only 5.5 runs per over.

After 10 overs, EAG were ticking along at 5.8 an over, a healthy run rate that would have seen a close finish. Ollie Lovejoy and Charlie Lovejoy opened the batting together, laying the foundation for a competitive chase, followed by Matt Wadling and Eliott Cryne. Ollie played some lovely strokes, kept cool and built a personal score of 43*. But in the 11th over Sam Pace came to the crease and cut loose. He played a measured, sensible innings, taking only five overs to score 35 runs, including one sublime six. Ollie and Sam polished off the remaining runs with 3.5 overs to spare.

I could not have asked for better effort from any team member this evening, it was definitely a moment to feel proud of all the players. Many thanks to Mick for scoring, Nic for sorting things out at the start and all the parents for their enthusiastic support.
