Copford v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U15 on Fri 13 May 2011 at 6.00pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost By 34 Runs
Match report
The Under 15s started their season with a 34 run defeat at Copford.
Bowling first the Green made a good start with Richard taking two early wickets and Matt only conceeding 9 runs off his opening 3 overs. However the Copford third wicket pair of Simpson & Helmer then put on an excellent 56 together, both batsmen demonsrating good technique in both attack and defence. Jake broke the partnership when Matt took a superbly judged running catch in the deep to dismiss Simpson. Unfortunately for the Green, they could not remove Helmer who completed his fifty, and the Copford innings closed on 122 for three.
The Green made a good attempt at chasing the target of 123, Matt was top scorer with a very good 29 supported well by Nathan with 17 and Jake 14, but some tight Copford bowling meant that the Green were always behind the run rate and eventually the innings closed on 88 - 7.
Despite the result there were a number of positives the team can take from the match and although playing in the premier division will present a real challenge this season, the team proved they have nothing to be afraid of.
