Match report
Tendring v Eight Ash Green – Match Tied
The Green at 58 for 8 chasing 116 looked out of this rain affected match which had been reduced to 30 overs. Jack Smith and Giorgio D’anna had different ideas and proceeded to form a partnership full of inventive shots and smart running that put on 56 runs and completely turned the game round. The partnership was ended by direct hit from deep which ran out the diving Giorgio for 24. This left Jack facing requiring 2 to win, 1 wicket remaining, Jack sensibly (the last two words are not usually in the same sentence) ensured the 1 run was completed to tie, the well set field not allowing two. Jack finished with 38 not out in his best if not highest innings for the club.
Earlier the Green had restricted Tendring to 115, Jack & Giorgio, later to star with the bat had bowled well, and Tom Aston and Richard Polley picked up wickets as the home side tried to accelerate. Sharp fielding has been a feature of the last two games and this time produced two runs outs.
On a dismal rain interrupted afternoon this was a good team effort by the Green which achieved a result, although at one stage very unlikely, was well deserved.
