Eight Ash Green Cricket Club News story

RIP Robin 'Boo' Cant

31 Jul 2024

The sun shone on Life Member Robin 'Boo' Cant's funeral today.   EAG church was overflowing and over 100 people came to the wake at The Green afterwards.  When you first think of Boo, it’s not what he did do, but what he didn’t do.

He DIDN’T drink alcohol, eat anything other than cucumber sandwiches, take phone calls or have internet, like having his picture taken, or like people in authority – particularly tax inspectors, clerk of works or our Borough Engineer.

What he DID do was be a permanent presence, effectively an unpaid security guard.  Boo was on the heath every day in van with 40 fags and The Sun.  He gave countless hours to the clubs he loved - EAG Cricket and Football clubs.

For over sixty years, he delivered railway sleeper seats to our final extension.  This was usually on a materials only basis, you can see his three line quote in our pavilion.  Your didn’t have to ask, just mention something and on your next visit it was miraculously done.

Boo was someone you were always pleased to see.  Always a  joke, a laugh, a chip in with a word or two.  He was a character, and they seem to be increasingly short supply.  Boring, bland, beige – Boo was none of these.

Eight Ash Green CC says a sad farewell and sincere thank you for sixty years of commitment and character.  Boo, you will be much missed.
