Eight Ash Green Cricket Club burnished its green credentials this week when it planted the first of six trees on the village heath. The club are the world’s first carbon neutral cricket club and runners up in The Cricketer’s Green Ground competition.
“The trees replace an oak that was causing subsidence to the pavilion and had to be felled last year,” Club Chairman Tim Chambers explained. “Each new tree represents a decade since Sir Len Hutton opened the pavilion in 1960.”
Pictured are Councillors Dean Nokes and John Jardine from Eight Ash Green Parish Council together with Club President Richard Parker and Carbon Champions Sophie Spicer and Anna Collins from the club’s youth section.
The trees were provided by club sponsor Neutral Territory which underpins the club’s sustainability programme.
