The Green is slowly getting up to speed as lockdown restrictions hopefully recede ...
Seniors
First the bad news ... we failed to get two teams out last Saturday and the 2nd XI were forced to concede their match against Woodbridge. The 2nds are in a relegation fight now and need to be competitive every week from now on. Now the good news ... the 1st XI put in a spirited performance and, despite a relatively weak team, pulled of an impressive win thanks to Keith Henry Hammond (pictured), Ollie Stovell and others. Full match report available here.
The first XI are again in the hunt for promotion and greater availability is needed to maintain this push. Can all senior members please ensure your availability is accurate AND that you make every effort to contribute to our collective aspirations for our club.
Women
Our Women’s XI had a close game against Colchester last Friday. The Green only made 76 despite Dimps retiring with 25 . Full match report here. Undone by the old adage – catches win matches - the Green ladies need to score more runs for a defensible target. More batting practice this week for an improved display on Friday.
Youth
Our vibrant youth section is playing lots of games at the moment and enjoying playing cricket again, especially now the sun is shining! The U14s are going particularly well and beat Abberton by 57 runs with Chris Appleby scoring a career best score of 49 and James Woodcock taking 3 wickets. Full results here.
Ground
Whilst Covid many restrictions remain in place, the George Porter pavilion has had been cleared of last year’s barriers, has been thoroughly cleaned like a clubhouse and less like a crime scene! Social distancing remains in place however do please adhere to guidelines until further notice.
A new batting cage is finally arriving this week and will double our capacity for net practice. We have a work party on Thursday to assemble it and do other work so get in touch if you can come and help.
Coming Up …
It’s hard to believe that we’re nearly half-way through the season and Cricket Week approaches. More news on this, our BIG Carbon Centurions launch and other matters shortly! View The Green Initiative to whet your appetite!
