Final 2020 GreenPiece – AGM Update

15 Dec 2020

In a year of firsts, the EAGCC 2020 AGM took place by Zoom. The meeting was brief at only forty minutes as the Treasurer rightly insists we use the free version. Turnout was high probably due to not having to endure an invariably freezing pavilion (see pic).  Minutes can be found on the web site and bear testimony to an unprecedented season.

Thanks to everyone who made cricket finally happen in the toughest of circumstances, especially Sam Collins and Duncan Wyatt for organising Senior and Youth fixtures respectively.  Special thanks too to Tim Chambers and Kathryn Spicer for Covid Safety work, the latter deservedly receiving the Clubperson of the Year Award for 2020.

We have strong finances at the moment thanks to a Small Business Rates grant. Pavilion activity including Diamond Jubilee celebrations has been pushed back to next year.  We have an exciting programme planned, including general refurbishment, tree damage and sustainability improvements.

Looking forward, our club has the strongest committee for a long time.  After a fantastic five years’ at the helm, Richard Polley steps sidewards to take responsibility for Senior Cricket, a new post focussing solely on developing our senior section. Tim Chambers is our new Chairman, and several new members join including welcome youth in the shape of Matt Murray.

It’s worth remembering that our club relies utterly on the long, hard (and unpaid) work our committee puts in.  We’re recognising all those who have done so much and adding a history of all key posts to club wall shortly.  Thanks too then to Life Member Richard Lindsey who joined the AGM online after joining the committee in 1964 as Treasurer and leaving in 1986 as President (and still never got a drink from John Stonehouse).

With best wishes for Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Things can only get better!

Richard Parker, President EAGCC
