2019 Report - a Rolls Royce of a Season!

05 Oct 2019

Another season over and plans for a new one just begun….

At committee level at least, discussions have started on how we can improve the club even more in the next year.

On the pitch this season the 2nd XI were champions of TC Div9S a terrific achievement considering a poor start. A large pool of players were used throughout and our run of 10 consecutive wins secured the title, there were some stand out performances particularly in the key wins over West Bergholt, Harwich, Earls Colne and Witham.

This is all recorded on our comprehensive website, which also details the 1st Xi’s great ‘so near yet so far’ season, third place in Div 4 for a second successive season, disappointing to miss out on promotion but another excellent season, David Stovell’s quality match reports bring the games to life, as do his reports on the Sunday XI.

The Sunday XI were competitive in the NECL and many young players gained valuable senior cricket experience, which benefited the 2nd XI on Saturdays where  they played their part in the crucial end of season matches. Thanks to Tim Chambers and Ollie Stovelll for their foresight regarding Sunday cricket and ensuring   the club stayed in the league and did not withdraw.

All teams including the 1st XI benefited from those who just have just left the youth section, or some still playing in it. The youth section played 44 games across the various age groups during the season, as well as competing in 11 Kwik cricket tournaments, great credit goes to Sam Collins, Duncan Wyatt and all those responsible for the respective age groups. The Woman’s team competed well in a very tough league and is looking forward like all our teams to 2020.

Coping with the high volume of home games was new groundsman Craig Scott and we thank him for his hard work.

As well as these fantastic achievements on the field, the club played its part in the Village festival and hosted the Village friendship Club for afternoon tea.

Thanks to all those who have contributed to another exciting season, Sponsors, players, committee members and the increasing number of supporters our success attracted.

The Club Dinner is being at Birch Grove Golf Club on Saturday 19th October.

The Club AGM will be held at the George Porter Pavilion on Saturday 9th November 10am.

I hope to see you at one or both of these events.
