GreenPiece - Bowler pulled off by umpire shock!

20 Jun 2019

Ist XI March On.  The 1st XI continued their winning spell with a hard-fought victory at Elmstead on Saturday.  Inserted on a tricky pitch, Hammonds Keith Henry & Stuart did brilliantly to build a 212 opening partnership.  Read Scorer Dave’s full report here.  Champagne Moment occurred when Ollie Mewis was pulled off mid-over by the Elmstead umpire for bowling two slightly high no balls.

Double Celebration for KHH.  It was a double celebration for skipper Keith Henry last week - not only with his first century of the season but his first offspring too!  Many congrats to him and wife Elspeth on the safe arrival of Isla Rosalind Hammond at 4:50 on Monday morning.  Mum and baby are doing well.  Best wishes from all at The Green.

T2 BBC Essex.  Big thanks too to Victoria Polley and colleagues from BBC Essex for featuring The Green in their recent 'Mystery Location' programme.  Can you please run an episode that locates Mark Goodall and Joe Young from the 1st XI for us?  Many thanks!

Youth Parents Muck In.  There’s always loads to do on Saturday mornings so thanks to all the Youth parents who help out whilst their offspring are training.  Star performer last week was Andy Sutcliffe who, despite being a rugby second row forward, still managed to mark out the boundary without bumping into a tree.  Or any children.  A redundant skill Andy as we’re getting a boundary rope courtesy of our friends at Jack Petchey but thanks all the same.

Senior Training Update.   After much discussion, senior training nearly started this week but fell victim to more wet weather.  Sessions are planned for Thursdays from now on and are led by Alex Hammond and assistants.  A key focus will be on 16-21 year olds leaving the youth section.  Training kit, nutrition and other incentives are under review.  Full programme out shortly.

Under U11s Match Report.  Great win for the Under 11's recently against a talented Brightlingsea team.  For many players this was their introduction to hard ball as we had 2 games cancelled so far.  Batting first, we ran well between the wickets and despite not hitting many boundaries were excellent at picking up byes and additional runs off wides. The other improvement was we only lost 3 wickets (minus 15 runs) showing players respected the good balls. Chasing 267 to win (teams start on 200 in Terrier cricket!) we bowled accurately, with most players bowling only one wide in their 2 overs. Our fielding was exemplary with good team work and backing up the throws. Even though we only took 2 wickets we kept the run rate down and Brightlingsea ended up 12 runes short.   Head Coach Woody.

Festival Beer Festival 20 July.   The Green hopes to contribute to the Village Music Festival this year by running a mini beer festival on Saturday 20 July.  Bar Manager Matt Parker will be revealing details shortly.   Support appreciated if not playing.

1st XI HOME THIS SATURDAY.  The rampant 1st XI play Worlington (now there's a REAL Mystery Location) at home on Saturday.  Please come up and support the team and the bar.  The latter has suffered a bit due to poor weather.  Thanks.

Cheers Ed
