Your soggy Wednesday update of events at The Green …

Kwik Cricket Washout.  Thanks to all those who put so much work into getting The Green prepared for our Big Event last Fridfay only to have the weather wash it out.  Special thanks to Craig and Mick in the Grounds Team for preparing at least 5 strips on the Thursday.

Climbing up The Table.  After a slow start, a full 20 points to The Green last Saturday sees them climb up the table to 5th place.  There are no obvious favourites at the moment and with the 1st XI getting better & better every week the push for promotion continues.

100% Weekend.  Last weekend saw both teams win with the 1sts comfortably beating Wivenhoe (null points) and the Sunday XI winning a tighter game against Boxted.  Man of the match on Saturday was skipper Keith Henry Hammond with 6 wickets.

Flying Start!  Player Of Month for May is Ollie Mewis.  Cricketer Ollie Mewis sounds a bit like celeb Olly Murs but that’s where the similarity ends as our Ollie has a lot more talent.  Ollie left Baddow for a club nearer to home and chose the Green due to great facilities and great attitude.  Ollie had an outstanding May including a shared 169 partnership with Ollie Stovell at Mildenhall.

Mensa or Denser?  The club’s annual quiz night was a great success with nearly ten teams taking part.  Winners were the quiz-keenies Bob's Full House who edged ahead of Three Pints Please by a few points.  Thanks to all who took part – a great start to the social programme.  Next up are World Cup games watch this space and other digital media.

Women’s Team THIS FRIDAY.  Weather permitting ... our Womens’ XI take on Mistley this Friday at The Green. Come up to support and start your weekend with a Col Brewery beer or two.

Sunday XI THIS SUNDAY.  The Sunday XI is a fascinating combination of Youth and Experience.  At one end we have young, fast, dynamic players from the U14s and U15s with their whole cricketing careers ahead of them; at the other end we have Neil Brinded.  The new format with post-match barbie is proving a winner so come up and cheer on home games including this week’s local derby vs West Bergholt.

NECL Vote.  Youth combo Troy Collin and Ollie Crafford were nominated for Performance at the Week on the NECL web site last week and came second by just 1%.  The club doesn’t accept the result and will keep pushing for a second referendum or ‘Players Vote’ until we win.

Cheers Ed.
