*GREENPIECE*- 1's STUMP STOWMARKET & WORLD CUP SWEEPSTAKE

06 Jun 2018

A tremendous 20 points for the 1’s & World Cup fever begins!

1’s Leave Stowmarket Stumped

A fantastic victory took place on Saturday at the EAGCC Arena with the Green convincingly beating 2017 Div 5 winners Stowmarket. An unbeaten Stowmarket came to the Green looking to keep their good season going however bowlers Oli Firmin & Mark Goodall ensured the maximum they could go away with was 2 points. Both bowlers received the Colchester Brewery Man of the Match for combined figures of 8- 85 off 26 overs. The Green in reply easily chased Stowmarket’s 100 runs with many overs to spare. Credit must go to Stephen Nunn for his 41*. The 1’s now go to Woodbridge to continue the hunt for promotion to Div 3.

2’s Just Lose to Chappel

Unfortunately the Saturday 2’s find themselves on the losing side of a very close encounter up the road at Chappel & Wakes Colne CC. The Green batted first and struggled on a sticky surface. Returning Dom Purser & Jens Wair put on a 64 run partnership with 46 of those runs coming from Jens. The Green were defending 134. However, you shouldn’t judge a score until both teams have batted on it. The Green’s immense fielding always kept them in the game with run outs & some great catching from Tom Lee. After getting Chappel down to 8 wickets the remaining batsmen steered the home side to a win. The 2’s play at home on Saturday against A12 locals Witham.

Sunday 1’s lose at Gt. Totham

The Sunday 1’s season started promisingly vs Gt. Totham with openers Richard Polley (62) & Will Spicer (43) hitting 105 runs between them. Local Kiwi Bevin did well for his 36*. The Green were happy with the 196 thinking it was a good total. However, it was clear to see it wasn’t as the top 3 of Totham’s batsmen all scored 50 + with ease. The Sunday team play Chappel on Sunday at the Green.
