Taken from the two counties website recently ...
The M H Two Counties figured in an excellent game at the delightful Eight Ash Green Ground in probably the best game of the season to date. Batting
first Two Counties found runs hard to get on a typical wicket this season still
wet underneath after so much rain of late. Jerry Wedge proved to be the mainstay
of the Two Counties batting with a determined 58 and held things together
against some spirited bowling from John Wair 4-25. Martin Southwell 25 and Mark
Comber 15 figured in what proved to be a match winning stand of 35 despite some
very good bowling from John Stonehouse 3-27. Thus enabling the declaration of
151 for 9 after 49 overs.
Eight Ash Green were determined to get this total and A Sampson 24, P
Johnson 23 and M Parker 21 all batted with verve in their attempt to gain a win.
Tony Oram however was on song and he bowled brilliantly with figures of 5-40
from his 16 overs. Tony had played nearly a 100 games for the Two Counties prior
to this game but this was his first ‘fifer’ and fittingly earned him the man of
the match award. He was backed up well by Martin Southwell 3-35 and Andy Mills
2-12 and some great teamwork and the home side were dismissed for 122 when at
one time a victory looked within their reach. Mark Paget kept wicket in his
usual dynamic style and lead the team well. A game played in a superb spirit
throughout that was enjoyed by a host of watchers.
The Eight Ash Green Club are to be congratulated for the style and
presentation of this game and the amount of hard work put in by their lady
members, a truly brilliant afternoon. This annual fixture has become a firm
favourite with the M H Two Counties representatives.
Thanks so much to everyone who worked so hard to earn those
comments, particularly Penny & Helen for the superb food after the game.
