Match report
‘Spring clean at The Green’
With lots of rain around during the day, there was much speculation about whether tonight’s match would go ahead. Fortunately, the wicket at The Green dried well and the rain held off, allowing the game to be completed.
Fielding first, EAG ladies were in good spirits. Boosted by the return of experienced bowler, Debbie ‘Dusty’ Green, Captain Cutter adjusted the bowling attack with the bowlers delivering just one over each in their spell. Flying high from last week’s performance, Minal Patel (TP) continued her run of good form in her first over, taking 2 wickets for only 3 runs. A third wicket in her second over was a real boost for The Green. Tight fielding in the overs that followed by youngsters Sophie Spicer and Milly Green, restricted runs for Sudbury well with Claire Bull not letting anything pass her on the boundry. A range of techniques were on show, from the traditional such as the long barrier to the more unconventional such as ‘the frog’ and ‘two scoops’ but all were characterised by enthusiasm and teamwork. Despite a dusty drop off the bowling of Patel, Debbie Green came back to show her flair, bowling out the middle stump of Bates in her last over and taking a catch off the bowling of Hannah Finbow-Jeffrey in the last over of the match. A great innings for EAG ladies, restricting Sudbury to just 87 runs.
The chase was on with Patel and Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield opening the batting. A tough LBW call saw Dimps departing and Amy ‘two-hands’ Finbow-Jeffrey coming in to bat. A strong partnership ensued with both players calling well and running up singles, byes and wides. With some skillful two-handed play, Amy retired out on 25 having hit four 4s. She was replaced by Hannah who made a quick 8 not out. Despite opening, Patel was still anchoring the team and occupying the crease, eventually finishing not out on 28, having hit the winning 4. Thankfully for her, the chase only lasted 13.3 overs and the EAG ladies had cleaned up at The Green. A fantastic night for the team and big thanks to the umpiring and scoring team of Steve and Max. Green Army!
