Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 43 runs

Match report The 2nd XI travelled to Mile End to play the Real Oddies in what was an important game if the Green are going to avoid relegation. On a hot afternoon, the Green batted first on a difficult wicket for run scoring. Chris Markham-Lee top scored with a patient 33, despite suffering with a calf injury for most of his innings. Skipper Colin Hammond made 29 and there were useful contributions from Jack Smith 18 Not Out, Stephen Nunn 12 and Nathan Taylor 11. The innings closed on 153 – 8 which the senior members of the team felt was a more than competitive total.

When the Oddies batted they found run scoring difficult against a five man Green attack that all bowled tightly and built pressure on the Oddies batsmen that led to wickets falling at regular intervals. The wickets were shared out between Colin and Stephen 3 each while DJM and Nick Murray took 2 each. Jack deserved a wicket for an excellent spell of quick bowling, which no batsmen looked comfortable facing. The bowlers were well supported in the field with all catches held and a number of runs saved by the younger lads sprinting around the outfield.

The Green ran out winners by 43 runs to close the gap with Copford to just 0.19 points at the foot of the Division 4 table.
