Witham CC v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club North Essex 1st XI (Sunday) on Sun 02 Sep 2018 at 12:30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 114 runs

Match report Just as we give serious thought to giving up on the NECL so we start to develop a winning habit, well, we've won twice in recent weeks anyway! Whilst not wanting to put a downer on an excellent team effort, it's fair to say that half of the opposition had spent the night celebrating promotion and were perhaps not entirely match fit. Then again, they did still have a certain player in their side who smashed us for 170 at the Heath, so let's not be overly sympathetic to their hangovers :)
To the delight of us all, Ollie had won the toss and chose to bat almost before the coin had stopped spinning. Tom Lee opened with Porky and followed dad's advice to play sensibly, but was pinned down for too long for his liking and eventually fell for 7 trying to up his scoring rate. Along came Norro to biff a few fours and generally look impressive in front of an adoring audience, but his departure for 24, with the team score on 122, precipitated a collapse of England middle-order proportions: James Plummer was 2 and out in the same over, then Porky's belligerent but classy 77 came to an end in the next and in the following over Will completed one of those weekends with the bat that you want to forget as he fell for a duck, although at least this time he saw off a few balls. Ollie and Alex staged a recovery, with the latter enjoying the lion's share of the strike as he hit a strong 56, while skipper Ollie perished on the boundary's edge for 30 chasing late innings runs. It was left to DUNCANNNNNNNN (9*) and Matt P (12*) to see us to 245, the latter playing two delightful shots to the boundary in the final over, one with power, the other with finesse.
Muzza and Ethan opened up our defence and in fine spells each dismissed an opener. At 12 Ethan has future first teamer stamped all over him, while Muzza's beaming smile came from having the aforementioned Zimbabwean international player caught by Norro, to the great delight of everyone. He was to pick up another just as Witham were rebuilding before the demon spin twins that were Will and Matt P took over. They took three wickets apiece at an average of around 10 and an economy of less than 4, a fine effort with such a large outfield to defend. Ollie applied the coup de grace and victory by 114 runs was achieved.
