Witham II v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) on Sat 02 Sep 2017 at 12:30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 113 runs

Match report A superb all-round performance from the Green secured another 20 point victory at Witham and further enhanced our promotion prospects. Having been invited to bat first, the Green made 239-3 with another unbeaten ton from skipper Keith; we then rolled over the home team for just 126 as that wily old veteran Steely wound back the years to rip the heart out of the Witham batting.
Batting progress was quite serene for 13 overs as Keith and Porky put on 87, only for the latter to play-on having reached 43. For a time the bowling tightened up, so the scoring opportunities were restricted and when a brotherly mix-up saw Alex run out there was a danger that we could lose the advantage gained from that opening stand. But fear not Greenies because Keith continued on his merry way, eventually finishing unbeaten on 121. He was joined by Ollie (43*) in an unbroken 4th wicket partnership of 93 that saw us to 239 - some locals considered it to be a par score, but with the benefit of hindsight, that was perhaps just kidology!
Witham's reply largely kept up with the asking rate whilst opener Jackson remained, although he lost a couple of partners, firstly to a rank full toss from Matt P, then to that man Steel; both were snared by Joe at slip. A moment of controversy followed when the Green were convinced Jackson had nicked-off, but it wasn't given. However, the problem was solved next ball when the skipper swooped to run him out. From there the innings was becalmed as Steely tightened his grip and gathered three more wickets. Alex joined the party with a run-out of his own whilst Keith then got in the act with ball in hand, with a brace of wickets for not very many. Finally, the coup de grace was applied by newly-blond Norro and we could celebrate inching one step nearer to Div 4.
With such an excellent display in all aspects of the game, this was a good day to watch cricket. Although Keith had quite a good day, Steely won the man-of-the-match award and few in attendance could argue with that.
